metabolisme tubuh – Metabolism is a collection of chemical reactions within cells of organisms that are done to survive. The reaction of the catalyst enzyme allows the organism to grow, reproduce, develop, and adapt to its environment. The term “metabolism” can also refer to all chemical reactions that occur in living things, including the digestion and transport of substances between cells.

Metabolism is usually divided into two categories namely catabolism that breaks organic matter and gets energy by cell respiration, and anabolism that uses energy to form cell components such as proteins and nucleic acids.

Chemical reactions to metabolism are structured into metabolic pathways, in which one chemical changes in several stages into another, with the help of enzymes. Enzymes are essential in metabolism because enzymes help organisms to control reactions that require energy. The reaction will not happen by itself. Energy will be released by the enzyme by making a spontaneous reaction. Enzymes act as catalysts that can speed up a reaction. Enzymes also regulate metabolic pathways by altering the cell atmosphere or receiving signals from other cells.

Metabolic systems in certain organisms can use toxins as nutrients. For example, some types of prokaryotic organisms use hydrogen sulfate as a nutrient, while the gas is toxic to animals. The speed of metabolism and the degree of metabolism affects the amount of food needed by an organism and how to obtain it.

The most striking feature of metabolism is the similarity of basic metabolic pathways and components across organism species. For example, carboxylic acids present in the citric acid cycle exist throughout the organism from unicellular bacteria Escherichia coli and elephant multi cellular organisms. This striking resemblance in this metabolic path is because it all comes from an emergence as described by the theory of evolution.
